With a little less than 24 hours to go to one of the continent’s biggest award shows, The MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA’s), Trevor Noah pulled out of hosting the award show, due to a respiratory infection.
Noah took to his Twitter account on the early hours of Friday (21 October), to make a statement on his health and his choice to withdraw from hosting the show at the last minute.

The comedian apologized for disappointing his fans and states that it has long been a dream of his to host the MAMA’s and not being able to fulfill it is a disappointment to himself as well. MTV has since announced Bonang Matheba as the takeover host and the people’s “Queen” took to her social media accounts to confirm the news. Some fans were happy that Bonang is taking the scroll over from Noah but, others were a little less excited about the news.

None the less the event is expected to be nothing short of excellence, considering Bonang’s reputation of slaying these entertainment streets and we wish Trevor a speedy recovery.
